The theft of catalytic converters is on the rise since the value of the precious metals inside the converters continues to skyrocket. For the vehicle owner, repairs can range from $1,000-$4,000. Engraving the VIN number onto the catalytic converter can curtail theft and also assist with the prosecution of thieves.
