The LAPF raises funds to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technology that improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the LAPD in the prevention, identification, and investigation of criminal activity, including:
- Body-worn cameras to that contributes to officer accountability and safety, provides evidence for criminal prosecutions, resolves biased policing complaints, and fosters positive relationships with the community.
- Enclosed canopies that assist field officers in the containment and collection of vulnerable crime scene evidence and protection from loss, contamination or deterioration.
- High-tech communications equipment for the LAPD’s “Situation Room,” which serves as a communications hub in the event of a natural disaster, terrorist attack or other major incident.
- Equipment to analyze acquired videos from various sources and complete a public release video after a 45-day review period related to all critical incidents to the public.
- Purchasing a number of horses to replace retiring equines in the Mounted Platoon, as well as a number of dogs to replace retiring canines in the LAPD's various K-9 Platoons.
- Tactical vests with hands-free communication capabilities and computer-aided resources for the Anti-Piracy Unit that assist in gathering on-site evidence and documentation to protect the region’s large base of apparel and entertainment companies.
- Fire safety equipment, including masks, goggles, and gloves, for officers assigned to a wildfire/brushfire to conduct evacuations, perform traffic control and other duties, and provide security for evacuated residences and property.
